CUSTOM NERF ACCESSORIES: PRIMING HANDLE REPLACEMENT AND DART HOLDER
Custom Nerf Roughcut Accessories: Text
The Nerf Roughcut 2x4 is a popular Nerf blaster designed to resemble and function like a pump-action shotgun. Before every shot, the blaster must be primed using the priming handle, by pulling it back to the end of the slot and pushing it back forward again. The priming handle is well-designed, being ergonomic, sleek, and following the trapezoidal profile of the bottom of the blaster. However, it must be operated with a second hand.

My redesigned priming handle allows the blaster to be operated with only one hand by having the handle jut out far enough to be pushed in both directions against the user's other arm, leg, or other surface. This allows a user to potentially use two Roughcuts at a time, increasing the potential for fun. I have used the handles in such a way to great effect.

The new priming handle is a 2-part 3D print that takes advantage of the existing product's interface points to the priming handle.

For further improvements, I would design the handles to better fit the profile of the Roughcut, which would help it resist unwanted force in its perpendicular direction.

The dart holder was another simple 3D-printing project with the goal of increasing the feasibility and fun of the Nerf Roughcut 2x4 blaster in play. The dart holder is a simple array of holes dimensioned precisely to snugly fit Nerf darts so they do not fall out during play, yet darts can be inserted and removed with minimal effort. The top row are open circles to facilitate even faster insertion and removal.

The array features a tab on either end to slot into a rail clamp. The rail clamps are dimensioned to fit the standard Nerf blaster rail, albeit with some tension so as to keep accessories secure upon the blaster.

My primary design is in-line along the length of the blaster, with stored darts perpendicular to it. In total, this design brings a Roughcut 2x4 blaster's carrying capacity up to 32, quadruple the original 8.

A secondary design features the holes in-line with the blaster, and a smaller array. This orientation is intended to allow faster loading of the firing barrels due to the darts already being parallel to the barrels.
